And many more
As soon as you start to research miniatures, you realize that they can be made of all kinds of materials. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, miniatures made of paper were very popular. The reason is of course simple. They could be printed on a sheet, cut out and sold in large numbers. They were cheaper than the then existing tin and metal figures. You can also find soldiers made of wood and many different kinds of metal.
Paper soldiers are still being made by one company, but they are not sold much anymore. Paper soldiers were mainly printed in Northern France where a lot of printing was done at the beginning of the last century (Epinal). In Strasbourg there is a museum focusing on soldiers made of paper.
